Build Lab: From Idea to Deployed App in 90 Minutes with Claude Code ๐Ÿ”ง

What if you could go from an idea to a working, deployed application in 90 minutes โ€” with an AI agent doing the heavy lifting?

That's what we're doing at this month's Build Lab. You'll use Claude Code, Anthropic's agentic coding tool, as your autonomous engineering partner to build a real application from scratch. Not a tutorial. Not a follow-along demo. You bring the idea, Claude Code helps you architect, write, debug, and ship it โ€” in real time, on your laptop, in 90 minutes.

Claude Code isn't autocomplete. It reads your entire codebase, plans multi-step solutions, executes across multiple files, runs and fixes tests, and iterates when things break. It's one of the most tangible examples of agentic AI in production today โ€” and the best way to understand what agentic workflows actually feel like is to use one.

What the evening looks like:

We start with a 15-minute walkthrough of Claude Code โ€” what it is, how it works, and how to think about working with an agentic coding tool versus traditional AI-assisted development. Then you build. For 90 minutes, you work on your own project (or choose from a set of suggested builds we'll provide) with Claude Code as your pair programmer. Facilitators will be in the room to help with setup, troubleshooting, and answering questions. We close with a show-and-tell โ€” anyone who wants to demo what they built in 90 minutes gets the floor.

Suggested build projects (or bring your own):

  • A full-stack dashboard that pulls live data from an API and visualizes it
  • A RAG application that ingests documents and answers questions about them
  • A CLI tool that automates a workflow you do manually every week
  • A personal finance tracker with a natural language interface
  • An evaluation harness for testing LLM outputs
  • Whatever you've been meaning to build but haven't started

What you'll walk away with:

A working application you built in one evening. A concrete understanding of how agentic coding tools change the development workflow. An honest sense of where these tools excel and where they fall short. And probably three or four ideas for what to build next.

What to bring:

๐Ÿ’ป A laptop with Claude Code installed (setup instructions will be shared before the event โ€” it takes about 5 minutes) ๐Ÿง  An idea for something you want to build (or pick from our list) ๐Ÿ”Œ A charger โ€” you'll need it

Who should come:

Software engineers, ML engineers, data scientists, product managers who code, founders building MVPs, and anyone curious about agentic development tools. You don't need to be an expert programmer โ€” if you can write basic Python or JavaScript, you can work with Claude Code. In fact, this event is especially valuable if you're not a senior engineer โ€” the whole point of agentic coding is that it levels up what you can build regardless of your starting point.

Pre-event setup:
We'll share Claude Code installation instructions in the group discussion one week before the event. It takes about 5 minutes. Please come with it installed and working so we can maximize build time.
Come build something. ๐Ÿ”ง

The catch: No guaranteed wifi. Bring a mobile hotspot or tell people to use phone tethering. For a Claude Code workshop, most people can tether from their phones. Bring laptops already fully charged.
