BCI Hardware & Deep Learning Project Night

Details
This meetup event will be done in conjunction with the Neural Data Science meetup run by Oliver Shetler. Here's a link to his meetup and the event we will be doing together.

For today's meetup we're going to be discussing the role BCI plays in helping those who can't speak communicate. We will talk about how Neuroprosthesis can help alleviate communication for those who may be paralyzed or suffer from locked in syndrome.
We will also go into detail about a competition that we will take part in for the meetup about training neural networks which can decode words from intracortical implants and their signals.
Sam Hosovsky of ucat
https://www.ucat.app/
will also give a short talk about the Brain-to-Text Benchmark '24 competition and the importance it plays in his work and how you can help participate in the competition with us or on your own if you choose.
We are launching an open-source project, where we will participate in an open challenge to develop a high performance model for decoding speech from human neural implant data. Check out the challenge here: https://eval.ai/web/challenges/challenge-page/2099/overview
At this meeting, we will be discussing the paper associated with the data and the challenge.
We will be discussing the models the researchers built (https://github.com/fwillett/speechBCI) and brainstorming options for improvement.
