Roundtable: The Only Constant is Change - Drive the Change You Want to See
Details
There are two elephants in the room … or rather several pairs of elephants: Autodesk monopoly vs AI enabling democratization of tool creation; standards vs openness; simplicity vs complexity; single source or truth vs data translation; trust vs check; drawings vs data deliverable; organic construction process vs datafied world; using AI right vs using AI well; applying standards vs building skills; individual expertise vs institutional knowledge; think it through vs get it done.
In this open roundtable conversation, we’ll have plenty of questions to be explored: Are we building better judgment, or slowly outsourcing it? What is reliable? Who is liable? How do we query smarter? What does the law say … and your insurance?
But most importantly: You bring your anxieties & questions; we bring the food & beer – and maybe together we can find an answer or two.
Join us on Oct 1, 6:00pm.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the key tensions AI introduces into BIM workflows — including standardization vs. personalization, efficiency vs. foundational knowledge, and individual tool-building vs. collective consistency.
- Evaluate the risks and liability implications of AI-assisted design decisions, including how QA/QC and review processes must adapt when data sources and workflows are no longer centralized.
- Assess how AI is reshaping reliance on established platforms like Autodesk/Revit, and what this means for interoperability, data delivery, and long-term software strategy.
- Develop practical strategies for building (or encoding) domain expertise — through skills, training, and mentorship — so teams can use AI effectively without losing critical judgment and fundamentals.
