David Lynch's The Elephant Man, April 2nd at IFC

David Lynch's sophomore feature film. Shot in gorgeous widescreen black and white by Freddie Francis (The Innocents, 1961), this film tells the story of Joseph Merrick, a man living in London in the late 19th Century with a great intellect, and many horrific physical deformities. It stars John Hurt and Sir Anthony Hopkins, and received eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor. As ever, everyone buys their own ticket, and we will head somewhere after the film for cocktails and discussion!
