Kurosawa's Ikiru (1952) at The Film Forum

Details
It is a Kurosawa film; but there are no samurai. It's a Kurosawa film, but there are no Film Noir detectives. There is just one old man, near the end of his life, trying to make sense of it all. And it's a deeply moving and insightful piece of art. Filmed in 1951, but not screened internationally until almost 10 years later, the movie is a loose adaptation of Tolstoy's novella The Death of Ivan Ilyich from 1886.
Please try to arrive 15 minutes early if you'd like to sit with the group, and make sure to buy to your tickets ASAP, as these screenings often sell out. We will meet in the lobby before the show (look for me; I have white hair and will be wearing a Kurosawa t-shirt!), and after the show we will probably go to Houston Hall (across the street) to discuss.
