We will have 1 short talk and 3 lightning demos. Afterwards we'll walk over to Vapiano to celebrate!
Short Talk:
Title: The Data Visualization Landscape
Speaker: Bitsy Bentley (bitsy.bentley@gfk.com)
Bio: As the Director of Data Visualization at GfK Custom Research (a global market research firm http://www.gfkamerica.com ), Bitsy designs data visualization applications to tell compelling stories about research data. In addition to developing new methodologies and templates for current GfK design processes, she also educates colleagues on current and emergent visualization tools, techniques and best practices.
Lightning Demo 1:
Demo Description: This quick visualization allows exploration of eight data points over five years for nearly 1,700 NYC public schools. It also features plenty of room for improvement and discussion about what d3 makes easier or more difficult as compared with other visualization tools. ( https://github.com/ajschumacher/see_schools )
Speaker: Aaron Schumacher (ajschumacher@gmail.com)
Bio: Aaron is an analyst with the New York City Department of Education. In his spare time he analyzes data from the New York City Department of Education.
Lightning Demo 2:
Demo Description: Data Visualizations and D3.js as used by AdFin Solutions
Speakers: Nicholas Kolba (nicholas@adfinsolutions.com) + Vahram Avagyan (vahram@adfinsolutions.com)
Bios: Nicholas Kolba + Vahram Avagyan both work with AdFin Solutions ( http://www.adfinsolutions.com ). AdFin applies the best thinking and execution from ad tech and financial services to the digital media realm.
Lightning Demo 3:
Demo Description: A presentation of StockMapper ( http://stockmapper-staging.herokuapp.com ), a tool for financial data visualization. We can visualize as many as 2000 stocks at a glance using d3; with a look at some of the techniques used to render and smoothly animate a whole bunch of DOM elements at once.
Speakers: Amit Schechter (amit@two-n.com)
Bio: UI designer, developer and co-founder of Two-N, a NYC-based data-viz agency whose recent clients include NYSE, Bloomberg and http://Demos.org .
