Applied Data Science with Soren Macbeth

We're excited to be welcoming Soren Macbeth to NYC and to our meetup.

Soren is Chief Data Hacker (nee Scientist) at Yieldbot. Prior to building the brains of the Yieldbot, Soren co-founded StockTwits, the largest real-time financial idea network. Earlier in his career, Soren worked as an information security engineer and analyst for Fortune 500 companies such as Apple Computer, Symantec Corporation, and Safeway, where he specialized in reverse engineering, threat modeling and penetration testing of networked computer systems and applications.

Soren's talk will discuss how Yieldbot operationalized their data science efforts using tools like ElephantDB and Storm. He'll also touch on his personal philosophy when it comes to research vs. production work (and how Clojure fits into that) and some of the challenges Yieldbot has run into when operationalizing machine learning systems.
