What we’re about
NYC Gay Improv is an inclusive improv program from Howdy Stranger, created specifically for gay men, queer folks, and all members of the LGBTQIA+ community who want a space to feel safe, supported, and fully themselves while learning and playing improv together.
These classes are about more than comedy. They’re about confidence, connection, and showing up as you are. You’ll laugh hard, take creative risks, and meet new people in a judgment-free environment that celebrates authenticity.
After class, most students head to a nearby bar to hang out, socialize, and build deeper friendships. Whether you’re brand new to improv or returning to play, NYC Gay Improv is your place to:
• Step out of your comfort zone.
• Laugh with a room full of new friends.
• Strengthen your voice and presence.
• Be part of a joyful, affirming queer community.
Improv is a powerful, transformative tool, and for the LGBTQIA+ community, it’s a chance to be seen, heard, and supported while having an absolute blast.
Life is unscripted. Get better at it.

NYC Gay Improv Class: Murder Flock
939 8th Ave, New York, NY 10019, New York, Ne, USSpread those wings and join the flock with NYC Gay Improv.
In this 8-week class, you'll learn and perform Murder Flock, an original long-form improv structure created by Howdy Stranger. Murder Flock combines CROW with flocking techniques. In improvisation, flocking is a form of group movement where performers move together as one, mimicking each other to create a visually striking, fluid ensemble. It emphasizes responsiveness, physical awareness, and deep team connection.
In Murder Flock, characters travel in groups called “flocks,” each sharing the same energy, quirks, and outlook on life. But when one member migrates away, they face a series of unexpected scenes that could change them forever. Will their reunion shift the entire flock dynamic, or will the group pull them back into the fold? Find out as we follow several flocks through the adventures of life.
It's theatrical. It's thrilling. It's Murder Flock! (Prerequisite: Improv Level 1).
Join fellow students after class at Rise Bar, one block away from the studio. Improvise, then socialize, with NYC Gay Improv.
