We are looking to add a number of First Timers to this event. However, you actually need to read the description of the event carefully. We are not asking for that much. First Timers-Don't Rush It.

Meetup charges an Organizer like me to run the group and the amount was raised substantially and I spend much time and effort planning and preparing for an event. Join us on a fast paced, fun, five mile comprehensive hiking tour of all of Roosevelt Island. There may be cherry trees blossoming on part of the Island.

This is an interesting but weird little island which has been undergoing significant change in the very near future. We will visit the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Four Freedoms Memorial Park, we’ll see some old ruins, the Octagon, which has an amazing spiral staircase and is now an upscale residential building but was once a “lunatic” asylum and many other places. We will also view the rapidly evolving campus of Cornell Tech that recently expanded. Things have changed big time at Cornell Tech. The waterfront views are really great.

MEETING DETAILS WILL BE SENT BY E-MAIL TO THOSE WHO RSVP NO LATER THAN THE EVENING BEFORE THE HIKE. The meeting place will be easily accessible by public transportation. Parking options are somewhat limited.

We will meet BEFORE 10:00 A.M. and we will probably finish before 2:00
P.M. WE LEAVE PROMPTLY. NO FOOD STOPS. Bring snacks and water. (ONE OPTION IS TO BRING LUNCH TO EAT AFTER THE EVENT)

Please do not post any comments or questions prior to the event. You have more than enough information to do this once you get the meeting details. No offense, but I don’t need to know-and neither does anyone else- what you are doing that day if you can’t make it or what you think the weather will be. These comments are really annoying to me and other members. AFTER the event, post as many comments and photos as you like. PLEASE RESPECT MY WISHES ON THIS.

If the weather forecast is really bad, I will post a notice on the day of the event by 7:00 A.M. If there is no notice, we go. We will finish around 2:00 p.m. right near the tram or subway.
