How to do AI in 2013

This month the always interesting Joseph Turian will be presenting a longer version of his recent talk "How to do AI in 2013".

Abstract:

It's pretty hard to get machines to do artificial intelligence using conventional machine learning. But that shouldn't stop us from building intelligent applications in 2013.
Humans can perform intelligent work, so machine modules can simply delegate their work to humans. (Crowd-labor.) And, with pipelines can that combine machine learning with human labor (crowd-computation), we can attempt to build intelligent applications that combine the best of both worlds.

I will talk about crowd-labor programming patterns, as well as the current state of the crowd-labor technological stack, and where the market is moving.

Joseph Turian holds a Ph.D. in computer science (with a focus on Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing) from New York University since 2007. During his graduate studies, he developed a fast, large-scale machine learning method for parsing natural language. He received his AB from Harvard University in 2001.
