NYC Photographers

On our recent Meetup in Red Hook we took so long to walk from the subway that we never got to explore the most interesting parts of the area so this time I thought we would take the ferry right into the heart of the neighborhood. We can then wander the streets looking for photo opportunities, of which I believe there will be plenty.

We will meet At Pier 11 close to the bottom of Wall Street in Manhattan at 11:00 am to catch the 11:30 ferry. Tickets are $4.00 available from ticket machines at the landing or use the NYC Ferry app.

Red Hook is an interesting part of Brooklyn featuring industrial landscapes, old timey streets, gentrified areas, and an always evolving personality. Red Hook has stunning waterfront views, a working waterfront that provides work and opportunities to see ships and tugboats, a burgeoning artist colony, and quality artisanal food and craft emporia. This will be a chance to get to see an area of the city many times overlooked and get some great gritty urban shots in the process. Also, look forward to the distant skyline of lower Manhattan.

After the walk we can try to find a restaurant that we can get into for refreshments before heading home. This would be optional and "dutch" of course.

As always all cameras even cellphone cameras are welcome as are all levels of skill.

Let's shoot sunset and then catch the Full “Sturgeon” Moon rising over Hudson Yards - From Across The River at Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken

Meet at Port Authority Bus Station - NJ Transit Bus 158 Platform/Stop

Bus fare $4:10 exact fare in cash needed! (both directions) (Senior fare $1:80) or buy a virtual ticket on NJ Transit app.

We'll take a very short trip on the Bus # 158 leaving at 6:45 pm to arrive at Lincoln Harbor in 10 minutes.

Then we will walk down to the waterfront and find a best spot to shoot.

We can practice setup and shooting on a tripod at sundown and after dark. Hopefully we will have fewer clouds than on my first attempt pictured above!

Golden Hour is from 7:23 pm. (Hudson Yards in Gold?)
The sunset is at 08:01 pm.
Moonrise at 8:30 (will show a little while later when it gets above the buildings.)

Afterwards we can visit a nearby restaurant for snacks and beverages before finding a bus back to Manhattan.

Bring your tripod for long exposure and night photography. A long lens would be most useful for this event but as always all cameras/cell phones etc. are welcome.
