When was the last time you walked the George Washington Bridge? Maybe never? For me, it was over three years ago. Here's a new opportunity to do it with friends and like-minded photographers.
At 1:00 pm, we will meet up and begin our photo-walk in Washington Heights, at the entrance to the North Walkway in George Washington Bridge Park at 180th Street and Cabrini Boulevard.
The nearest subway is the A train station at 181st Street, two short blocks from the meeting point.
The South Walk we have used in the past is closed due to construction, so we will cross using the new North Walkway, with views over the Hudson River. (On the way, we will need to be careful due to the walkway being shared by bicycles during the closure of the South Walkway.)
After reaching the far end, we can explore Historic Fort Lee Park, enjoying views of the bridge, river, city skyline, historic canon sites, and log cabins in the woodlands. There is also a small Civil War Museum.
Later, we'll make our way back across the bridge and find, perhaps, a restaurant in the Heights for a snack and a beverage.
Participants should ensure that they wear very comfortable walking shoes. You will walk a few miles and will be on your feet for most of the meetup. We recommend that you also bring water.
All types of cameras, from professional models to cell phone, are welcome at our events. Folks at all levels of expertise are also welcome. Bring whatever gear you wish to use. Don’t forget your freshly charged batteries and empty formatted memory cards. If your cameras have been sitting unused, it is recommended that you clean the lenses and sensor of any collected dust.
Please be on time! The NYC Subway System is a hellscape of unimaginable delays that will wreak havoc on your mind, body, schedule, and soul. Plan your trip with some extra time so that you don't get left behind!
