Let's Capture The Dance Parade

“Dance Parade returns to the streets Saturday, May 18, 2024 and will celebrate the 18th Annual Parade and Festival with 10,000 dancers featuring over 100 unique styles of dance. A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony kicks off the event at 11:45 am at 17th Street and Sixth Avenue (Avenue of the Americas)”

This parade is a first for our Meetup Group although I have enjoyed it a few times. This year I invite you to join me in enjoying and capturing it.

Once we are assembled we’ll take up spots where we get a good view of the parade as it begins to pass us. Then follow the parade as it makes its way to Tompkins Square Park in the East Village continuing to make fun captures of the participants as we go.

We will try to stay together as a group as much as possible but the streets will be crowded and if folks lose the group we can regroup on the corner of Tompkins Square Park at Avenue A and East 10th Street as the parade and we arrive in that area.

As always any camera even cell phones are welcome but I recommend telephoto lenses to get in close for portraits and a wide-angle lens for group shots. We will be moving too fast for any tripod use.

This is a colorful and fun parade with many opportunities for great photos. Wear good comfortable walking shoes as it’s a fairly long route.

After the parade and when we regroup we can look for refreshments in the area.

Please be on time! The NYC Subway System is a hellscape of unimaginable delays that will wreak havoc on your mind, body, schedule, and soul. Plan your trip with some extra time! The “MyMTA” app is highly recommended for subway info on weekends.

• Charge your batteries and format your memory cards. Check that both are in your cameras.
• Get your gear ready. Make sure your lenses are clean. Pack your batteries, memory cards, camera, and whatever else you need. (Water is always a good idea!)
