Cold Spring, the 1st Of Our 4 Fall Outings

Cold Spring, A wander through the woods and village. The first and the shortest in our annual series of four Autumn Upstate Photo-walks.
This year, again, we'll take the shorter trail by the old West Point Canon Foundry.

Saturday October 17th. We'll meet up at Grand Central Terminal by the Clock/info booth at 10:00 am and catch the Hudson Line train at 10:31 am

If you plan on driving, meet us on the platform at the train station in Cold Spring when we arrive at 11:56 am. The platform is important as we will exit onto the trail at the far end away from the town. We will not be entering the station itself. Please use Google Maps to find the nearest parking lots.

A picturesque ride by the Hudson River on a Metro-North train to the Hudson-Valley village where we will arrive at 11:56 am and make our way towards the woodland trails directly from the Cold Spring station platform.

"Cold Spring is a village located in the Hudson Highlands and sits at the deepest point of the Hudson River, directly across from West Point. The central area of the village is on the National Register of Historic Places due to the many well-preserved 19th century buildings, constructed to accommodate workers at the nearby West Point Foundry"

Apart from a short but slightly steep stretch just before we leave the woodland this is a flat and easy walk suitable for most people. After a pleasant hike through the fall foliage, exploring the woodland trail and the various remnants of the canon foundry we'll pop out of the woods at the top of the village for a mostly downhill stroll to Main Street passing some lovely mansions and then hopefully find a bite to eat before heading back to Manhattan.

Please be on time! The NYC Subway System is a hellscape of unimaginable delays that will wreak havoc on your mind, body, schedule, and soul. Plan your trip with some extra time! Check the MTA app for subway train changes before leaving home. Hudson Line trains are very busy at this time of year and if you want to sit I suggest being early.

Dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes.

Pack whatever gear you need. We suggest you also bring water & snacks, however, this is not a very long walk. Don’t forget your charged batteries and empty memory cards. Tripods would be overkill on this walk.

I expect that we will be back in Manhattan around 7:00pm but this could change so please be flexible.
