Testing your tests: Mutation Testing in Ruby with Michael West

We constantly rely on our automated test suite to act as our safety net for our ever evolving software. But how often do you measure the effectiveness of your tests? How do you even go about doing this? Mutation testing is a clever technique that when used will give you confidence that your tests will provide protection in your next refactoring apocalypse. Michael West is a Software Manager at Medidata Solutions where he works on services that allow clinical trials to run more efficiently. Before his tenure at Medidata he worked at Bloomberg, Amazon and Microsoft.

Docker for Ruby Developers with Frank McCreery

By now, you've probably heard of Docker. In this talk, we'll discuss how using Docker containers can simply both development and production deployments, for Ruby-based shops. We'll start with a high-level overview of Docker and the various tools and services associated with it. Then, we'll talk about some specific problems that can be simplified by using standardized containers, including: achieving dev-prod parity, secure load balancing, database administration, and more. Frank Macreery is the cofounder and CTO of Aptible, a PaaS for HIPAA compliance (written almost entirely in Ruby!) At Aptible, he is responsible for building container orchestration systems that automate the security and auditing requirements of HIPAA and other regulatory frameworks. He is @fancyremarker on the web.
