Come join us in Industry City to experience an exciting take on the robotics world of New York City!! We'll hear from Steve Giralt of The Garage and Kel Guerin of Ready Robotics.

Special thanks to our sponsor, Alley Robotics Ventures.

Alley Robotics Ventures (ARV) is an early stage venture capital firm investing in amazing teams solving the world’s problems through robotics and automation. ARV is based in Boston and NYC and are inspired by the AlleyCorp venture fund and incubator. ARV is proud to count Kevin Ryan and Eliot Horowitz as our initial limited partners. Their team members are also advisors at AlleyCorp.

Additional thanks to our event supporter informal, and to YOU, for your interest in supporting and growing the robotics community in New York.

Agenda:

6:00-6:30 - Meet & Greet / Networking

6:30-6:40 - Introduction & Welcome

6:40-7:05 - Kel Guerin, Co-Founder & CTO, Ready Robotics
Kel Guerin has been working in the robotics and automation space for more than 10 years, focusing on the design and usability of a wide variety of robots — including systems for space exploration, deep mining, surgery and industrial manufacturing. While obtaining his PhD from Johns Hopkins University, Kel worked specifically on the challenge of making industrial robots more flexible and easy to use. The result was the FORGE operating system— a plug-and-play interface for industrial robots — which became READY Robotics, an industrial robotics start-up he co-founded in 2016.

Kel will speak on the topic of "We Fight for the Users - Usability and the Future of Robotics” and how he's spent his career laying the foundation for a more democratized automation landscape, where developers and end-users are empowered by a universal software and hardware architecture to rapidly create automation solutions that can be deployed in days instead of weeks or months.

7:10-7:35 - Steve Giralt, Founder, Director, DP & Visual Engineer, The Garage
Steve Giralt combined his experience as a commercial photographer and his passion for tinkering with electronics to create The Garage, a production company exploring a new discipline he calls “visual engineering.” Steve and the studio team at The Garage Rentals, use industrial robots and build their own robotic mechanisms to help them get perfectly composed shots of burgers flying through the air, beverages splashing, and so much more.

Steve will share more about the process of visual engineering, the robotic systems and control platforms he and his team use in the studio, and demo some amazing robotic action!

7:40-8:00+ - Closing remarks, Lightning Talks*, community announcements, networking & demos

Food and Drinks to be provided.

*Lightning Talks allow anyone to present 1 slide and speak on stage for 2 minutes. Slides must be provided in advance as a PDF or Google Slide and emailed to nycrobots@gmail.com.
