In our ongoing series of Reality Capture and Digital Twins, Mike Paciero and Tom O'Connor will present: Ensuring BIM Lives on After Construction: A Case Study in how to Navigate from Design to Construction to Owner BIMs
Many owners are asking today how they can leverage the 3D models created in design and construction in their facility operations and potential future Digital Twins. As the idea grows and BIM becomes more and more advanced, the industry is faced with addressing the question of how to advance the typical uses of tools like Revit, AutoCAD, scanning, and others to deliver a model that is usable, accurate, and maintainable once the building opens. This course will explore a case study of the process being used on two projects in New York City, and discuss what designers, contractors, owners, and other consultants can do to support the development of this end goal.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Have a better sense as to which 3D models to deliver to an owner for long-term use including formats, quantity, accuracy and delivery strategy
- Understand how reality capture is playing a key role in this process during new construction and at the beginning of a renovation
- Be armed with a series of questions to identify the right strategy based on a project type
- Set better expectations up front with your partners and clients of what options are available and how best to prepare for the best one
Mike Paciero is a VDC Director at VIATechnik based in New York City with a key focus on digitizing the building handover experience to support Digital Twins, and how to begin that process as early as the design phase. He has worked on strategic consulting and execution for BIM for Facility Management and Digital Twin initiatives with owners in NYC for the last nine years including projects with the United States Tennis Association, Northwell Health and Disney. His MS degree in Architectural Engineering from Lawrence Technological University provides additional background and knowledge in MEPFP building systems to support an eye for coordinating integrated design and construction, and readying buildings for a digital future.
