We're delighted to welcome Fred Mazzella, who has built BlaBlaCar into the world's largest city-to-city ridesharing platform, now carrying more people than Amtrak every day. BlaBlaCar connects people who want to travel with empty seats in cars in over 40 countries. the platform has made five acquisitions in the last year, and in summer 2014, they closed the largest ever venture capital round by a French startup.
Join us on June 23rd at NYU for a conversation with Fred to get a window into a truly global sharing economy platform. We will discuss the company's meteoric growth, how the ethos of sharing varies across countries as diverse as France, India, Mexico and Romania, what causes their millions of customers to develop enough trust to get into a stranger's car and be driven to another city, the challenges of balancing Silicon Valley investors like Index Ventures and Accel Partners with a customer culture rooted in genuine ridesharing, and the implications of their recent acquisition of key competitor carpooling.com.
The event is in room 1-100 (Shimkin Commons). We'll start with wine and networking at 6:30pm, the conversation with a short talk by Fred, a conversation, then 30 minutes of audience Q&A between 7pm and 8pm, and informal networking after 8pm.
