Ok, now the kids are older or out of the house and you're ready for the next great stage of your life. Want to meet others similar to yourself? Live in the area of NYC or Long Island? Then this group is for you.
Welcome to the "Greater NYC and Long Island Over 40 and Ready For Fun" Meetup group. This group is for all of us who want to put a big dose of fun into their lives by making new friends to share the joy of life with. It is not a "singles group" exclusively but is rather for anyone who likes to have fun which, I hope includes you!
I am trying to keep this a "Yes" only group so, if the timing of a certain event doesn't work for you or it is not something that you are interested in, we understand and we'll see you at some other event. In that case, please don't feel like you need to respond by RSVPing with a "No" but if you are planning to join us at an event, please RSVP "Yes" as early as possible to help us create some buzz about that event.
All members are invited to post events to the group and anyone who would like to become a sponsor of it is invited to do that as well for a small one time fee.

How else is it similar/different from Traditional Speed Dating
One on One dates:We will break participants into pairs of two, just like we do with traditional speed dating. You will get to speak to each dates for a specified amount of time (typically 4-6 minutes). After the specified number of minutes, the guys will rotate to the next date and the process continues.
Just like with traditional speed dating, at the end of the event you will be able to let us know who you were interested in. We will send you both mutual matches (you picked them and they picked you) as well as one way matches (they picked you but you did not pick them).
You are given 20 minutes from the end of the event to let us know who you are interested in and will receive the results the same night (usually within one hour) or the next morning. You will not have to wait 24 hours or more to get your results.

How many potential dates will be there?
The minimum number of potential dates will be 5 and the maximum will be about 15. If for any reason there were less than 5 members of the opposite sex in attendance, you would get credit for a future Virtual event.***
