What we’re about
No pressure here! Social anxiety tends to keep us in avoidance, not getting out much, and (obviously) not socializing much.
There's no formal leader. The founders' goal is to have a walking group, open to and understanding of those of us who struggle with social anxiety. Nothing is expected or pressured here. We're going for a walk. It's a win-win. If people don't show, we get some exercise. If people show, we get some exercise.
This is a chance to chat with others who also deal with social anxiety. It's a chance to be quiet, too, if you like.
Stepping into social activities can be tough, and you should do this one step at a time. You can choose to come join us on your terms. Leave any time you like - no questions asked.
Let's go for a walk!

Welcome to the social anxiety walk club! We don't have an official leader (if Catherine's there, she'll probably greet everyone, but that's as close as it gets); we're just a group of people, walking in one of the world's greatest parks.
We meet at the Maine monument in the Central Park entrance near Columbus Circle at 11:00 am and wait 5 minutes for folks to show up. (Pro tip: if you're running late, message our WhatsApp group chat and let us know.)
At 11:05 am, we start walking toward Bethesda Terrace. On the walk, feel free to talk, not talk, and leave whenever you like--it's up to you. We just want to walk (and maybe talk) with you for a little while. We hope to see you there.
(Pro tip: if you're running late, message our WhatsApp group chat and let us know.)

And please join our WhatsApp group chat! (https://chat.whatsapp.com/JinNSrSNuasCvHPCRVB7ZA) Catherine takes a while to respond to requests to join, but she's been trying to get better with that. The group is here to coordinate meeting up for our walks, but it's also here to support one another in other aspects of navigating life with social anxiety, because we understand. <3
Why this group exists:
Our founder spent 6 months in an in-person CBT program for social anxiety, where one of the first things they did was go on a walk together. That program was one of the best things he'd ever done for himself, and a huge part of it was having "behavioral activity partners," other people with social anxiety who can relate to each other and perhaps even go do things together.
