As the summer of 25 rolls along, let's get outside and do a berry picking hike at Harriman State Park, reachable on NJ Transit to Tuxedo.
About Harriman State Park: Harriman State Park, located in Rockland and Orange counties, is the second-largest park in the parks system, with 31 lakes and reservoirs, 200 miles of hiking trails, two beaches, two public camping areas, a network of group camps, miles of streams and scenic roads, and scores of wildlife species, vistas and vantage points. Harriman State Park's major facilities include Lakes Welch, Sebago, Tiorati and Silvermine, the Anthony Wayne Recreation Area, Sebago Cabins and Beaver Pond Campgrounds.
NOTEWORTHY: Blueberry season is at its prime in July and August in New York. Strap up those boots, pull out your Harriman-Bear Mountain Trails Map, pack a lunch, bring beverages of your choice to stay hydrated and hit those blueberries trails.
GETTING THERE: We're taking NJ Transit, with a transfer at Secaucus Junction, arriving in Tuxedo station. The trailhead is a short walk from the train station.

AGENDA: We will hike the Lake Skenonto loop. This is one relatively laid back loop of about 8-miles to Lake Skenonto with a moderate elevation gain of about 1500 feet. This hike will lead you along several lakes and through thousands of wild blueberry bushes. Hike is perfect for newer hikers or those looking for a relaxed day. Note: there are a few rocky and uphill parts but overall this is a tame hike.
HIKE INTENSITY: This will be an EASY BREEZY to Moderate intensity hike. There are some ups and downs but nothing strenuous.
PACE: This is a LEISURELY PACE HIKE AND NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND.
THE IMPORTANT STUFF:
- Dress in non-cotton layers.
- Wear appropriate shoes suitable for hiking.
- Bring at least 3 liters of liquid to stay hydrated.
- Bring lunch and snacks for yourself.
- Bring a sense of adventure and a positive attitude. A smile also goes a long way. Please leave the drama and crankiness at home.
Après hike we can grab eats and drinks by the train station before heading home.
RETURN TRAIN FROM TUXEDO: There is a 4:20PM train back to NYC by 5:36PM and a 6:44 train from Tuxedo back to NYC by 7:52PM
MEETUP FEE: A $2.00 Meetup fee will be collected to help defray the cost of keeping this group going.
