Sponsored by the Hungarian Folklife Association, this weekend is focused on teaching táncház dances to beginners and those who wish to brush up on their dancing. The whole idea is to get more people participating in dances that always seem to appear at táncház events.

# Hungarian Folk Dancing Weekend for Beginners 2026
Sponsored by the Hungarian Folklife Association in partnership with the Magyar Tanya, this weekend is focused on teaching táncház dances to beginners and/or those individuals who have limited experience with these social dances. The whole idea is to get more people participating in dances that always seem to be played at táncház events.
Please note: this event for ages 13 and above only (and all individuals under 18 must be supervised by an adult).
Location: Magyar Tanya | Barto, Pennsylvania

Intructors: Hajnalka Guti-Izsó and Lajos Hunor Izsó
SCHEDULE
January 9, 2026 | Friday night
7:00 PM – Arrival and meet/greet (dinner not provided)
7:30 PM – Welcome from the Hungarian Embassy’s Zsuzsanna Fekete
January 10, 2026 | Saturday
8:00 AM – Breakfast (continental provided)
9:00 AM – 12:00 – Teaching
12:00 – 1:00 PM – Lunch (sandwiches provided)
1:00 – 4:00 PM – Teaching
4:00 – 4:30 PM – Break/Snacks
4:30 – 6:00 PM – Teaching
6:15 – 7:15 – Dinner (dinner provided)
8:00 – TBD – Teaching and táncház (recorded music/more teaching then szabadtánc ratio)

9:00 AM – 12:00 – Teaching
12:00 – 1:00 PM – Lunch (sandwiches provided)
1:00 – 2:00 PM – review and video recording of learned content

LODGING
There are a limited number of beds (7 rooms) available at the Magyar Tanya. Once those rooms are reserved, the accommodations consist of a large room where everyone sleeps (blow-up mattresses and sleeping bags). There are plenty of bathrooms and showers.
Room types
- Room with two twin beds ($50 night/room or $100 for the weekend)
- Room with two double beds ($60/night or $120 for the weekend)
Large/Communal Sleeping:
- $15/night or $30 for the weekend (over age 17)
- $8/night or $16 for the weekend (under age 17)
MEALS
Because the program is meant to be (a) low-cost and (b) stress-free for everyone (including organizers), we will not be paying to have cooked meals or cook on-site. We will provide meals that are easy and ready-made.
- Breakfast – bagels, cream cheese, oatmeal, fruit, coffee, juice
- Lunch – self-service sandwiches (including vegetarian option)
- Dinner – Hungarian something
- Drinks – (please bring a water bottle), alcohol is BYOB
If you have a documented food allergy or prefer to bring your own food for the weekend, we will deduct the cost of the meals from your tuition. We need to know this well in-advance so that we can plan/purchase food accordingly.
COSTS
- Early-bird (before November 1, 2025) – $160 ($50 of this fee is a nonrefundable deposit)
- $175 (DEADLINE: January 3, 2026) ($50 of this fee is a nonrefundable deposit)
- Meals for the weekend – $70 (if you have a documented allergy and bring your own food we will not add this to your costs)
- Lodging – depending on room/lodging type
- Registration fee ($50)(non-refundable deposit)
Your costs will be calculated and we will send you an electronic bill by email. (Total cost formula is $160 (shared costs) + room/lodging type + $70 (meals))
