Those who don't want to camp, can still join us for a afternoon hike to the summit of Anthony's Nose and then catch the Metro North train from Manitou back to Grand Central.

Hemlock Springs Campsite is located near South Mountain Pass - Manitou Rd and Copper Mine Brook.
PLEASE NOTE: Copper Mine Brook water source: "DO NOT USE" - mine drainage - possible heavy metal contamination. *There's a slow but reliable spring not too far, south from Hemlock Spring Campsite that's safe to drink but you MUST use a Water Filter.

Drivers can park at South Mountain Pass (Manitou Road) gate.

GETTING THERE: We're going to meet at Grand Central Terminal (East 42nd St, NYC) by track 29, no later than 12:30 PM and take the 12:43 PM Metro North Train to Manitou Station. we'll arrive at Manitou at 1:55 PM. Travel Time = 72 Minutes.
From Manitou Station, we're going to walk/hike on a flat road east on Manitou Station Rd toward Manitou Woods; Turn left onto NY-9D N; Turn right onto Manitou Rd; Turn right onto S Mountain Pass Rd (a total of 1.9 miles walk/hike). From the gate of South Mountain Pass Rd, we're going to take the flat rocky "Unmaintained trails" to the Appalachian Trail - White; make a sharp right on the AT -White, which will lead us to Hemlock Springs Campsite.
After we set up camp, we're going to hike the flat "Unmaintained trails" to the AT - White trail to the Blue trail and take the Blue trail all the way to the summit of Anthony's Nose. There's no incline, just a small up-slope, down slope,very rocky road once we get on the AT - White trail to the Blue Trail.

WHAT TO BRING: Waterproof Tent, tarp (or a water resistant shower curtain from the dollar store) to place your tent on top of, in order to protect the bottom of your tent, sleeping bag / sleeping air pad, waters (enough for two days), food & snacks (enough for two days), changing clothes to sleep in, rain poncho (from the dollar store), headlamp / flash light, garbage bag to put your trash in, a bear bag to hang your food up in a tree overnight and PLEASE walk with your portable phone charger and a Backpack to carry everything in.

WHAT TO WEAR: Hiking boots -or- very comfortable athletic running / walking sneakers. Please dress according to the weather.

MNR Schedules for Manitou back to Grand Central (May 6th): 3:22 PM; 4:26 PM; 5:24 PM; 6:26 PM and 7:30 PM. *For Sunday (May 7th): 1:22 PM, 3:22 PM; 4:26 PM; 5:24 PM; 6:26 PM and 7:30 PM.
