Beauty in the Subways
Details
There are more than 200 works of art--mainly mosaics, murals, and sculptures--on the platforms, walls, and floors of the NYC subways, many of them unknown or barely noticed by harried commuters. Let's transform the subway experience into a fun and inspiring afternoon, by visiting many of the city's most beautiful art installations under the ground. Our route will cover those sites without having to travel more than one or occasionally two stops at a time. We'll exit and possibly re-enter (if enough members want to) the subway for late lunch.
WALKING DISTANCE: About 1 mile, including some ups and downs on the stairs.
COST: $1, to help cover the $360 annual organizer fee, plus whatever you pay for lunch.
LATE LUNCH: At around 3 PM we'll exit the subway to an adjacent, elegant food court at Lexington Ave and 53rd St. You can buy lunch there or bring your own food.
ENDING TIME: Around 4:15 PM, but you can leave earlier, of course.
TRANSPORTATION: The subway platform where we're meeting is on the A, C, and F lines; you can also get there via the R train and walking through the station to the A/C/F platform. Be sure yo Google MTA planned services changes for weekend changes on your lines.
