Introduction to WebXR

Details

In the past 2 years, augmented and virtual has begun to explode. The subject of our next meetup is an introduction to WebXR: an API for AR/VR in the web browser. The goal of this meetup is to promote and expand the use of WebXR in the NYC development community. We are excited to be holding our next meetup at the RLab located at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

What is WebXR?
WebXR is an API that allows developers to create augmented and virtual reality experiences in a web browser with support for mobile devices and various VR/AR headsets which including Magic Leap, Oculus Go, Oculus Quest, and HTC Vive. WebXR will allow developers to view and interact with 3D environments and objects in real-time, without leaving the mobile browser. Similar to WebGL, you can update and deploy content regardless of the mobile device or operating system. Your user will not have to download an app.

In this meetup, we will introduce the WebXR API, discuss resources for getting started, present companies and demonstrations and have a discussion on the future of this technology.
If you are a company or developer that is currently using WebXR, we are welcoming lighting talks between 5 – 7 minutes. Please contact me at aaron@biodigital.com.

About RLab: A partnership between New York City and its universities, RLab is the nation’s first city-funded center for research, education, and entrepreneurship in virtual and augmented reality and related technologies.
