First Day Hike

Happy New Year!

Come join us outdoors for a First Day Hike for fitness, fresh air and camaraderie with new friends.

First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative led by America’s State Parks to encourage people to get outdoors and getting their hearts pumping and to savor the beauty of the state park’s natural resources with the comfort of an experienced guide so they may be inspired to take advantage of these local treasures throughout the year.

For this hike we'll be heading to COLD SPRING, New York in the Hudson Valley.

Ring in the New Year with beautiful scenery and fresh air of the Hudson Highlands down at the Hudson River’s shoreline!! Join us on New Year’s Day starting at 11 a.m. for free hot cocoa, coffee, snacks, music, fireside warmth, short naturalist-led hikes around Little Stony Point (about 1 mile), or a hike to nearby historic Cornish Estate (3 miles round-trip). Little Stony Point Volunteer Center at 3011 NY-9D, Cold Spring, NY 10516. LSPCA - littlestonypoint.org, NYS Parks - parks.ny.gov. Hikes commence at 11:30 am, No fee event, Free snacks, coffee & hot cocoa, Leashed pets allowed, Easy to moderate terrain, All ages welcome. Dress warmly and wear proper trail footwear. Meet at Little Stony Point, 3011 Rte. 9D. Cold Spring, NY (State Park Office/Volunteer Center).

GETTING THERE: For those without cars, we'll meet at Grand Central to take the 8:56AM Metro-North to COLD SPRING.

AGENDA: Once we arrive at Cold Spring Station, it's a 20-min walk to the Little Stony Point Volunteer Center where hike will commence at 11:30AM. Come early for the free cocoa and snacks.

THE IMPORTANT STUFF:

• Dress in non-cotton layers.
• Wear appropriate shoes suitable for hiking -
• Bring at least 3 liters of liquid to stay hydrated.
• Bring lunch and snacks for yourself.
• Bring a sense of adventure and a positive attitude. A smile also goes a long way. Please leave the drama and crankiness at home.

AFTER HIKE, for those interested we’ll have dinner and drinks in Cold Spring to celebrate a new year before heading home.
