Central Queens Y

Community Green Team Forming to Work on Climate Change Issues Monday, December 4, 7 p.m. Central Queens Y[masked]th Street Forest Hills, NY 11375 Hosted by Central Queens Y, with Forest Hills Solar Energy Meetup. https://www.meetup.com/Forest-Hills-Solar-Energy-Meetup/ We are at a critical moment on climate change. What we do now determines what happens for all people around the world today and for all who come after us. In Forest Hills we are forming a community green team that will get involved on the issue of climate change. A few possible ideas include: Divestment from fossil fuels: Lobby for NYC and NY State pension funds to divest from fossil fuels. Climate change legislation: Advocate on behalf of climate change legislation at the city or state level. Urgently needed state legislation was proposed last year, but did not pass.. Public education: Public programs around films or speakers to educate the public about climate change, food and water issues Community solar, energy audits & energy saving rebates: Public programs to educate the public and engage participants to reduce their energy use and to sign up for community solar projects. * Community gardens or other community projects Join us at our first meeting on Monday, December 4! Come ready to share your ideas and to brainstorm with your neighbors! * Dan Miner, as a volunteer with 350NYC.org, is setting up community energy forums in various NYC neighborhoods in 2018. See the outline or the forums at: http://beyondoilnyc.blogspot.com/2017/10/envisioning-nyc-community-energy-forums.html
