Serena Jean Band, Misty Boyce, and Chris Cubeta at The Living Room

Details
The Living Room (https://www.livingroom... (https://www.livingroomny.com)) is considered one of the best venues for new music in New York. And it happens to be a comfortable place with no cover charge and a one-drink minimum. (The official policy is one drink per set, but usually you can get just one drink for the entire evening if you like.) A tip jar for the singer/band is passed after each set. The Zagat Nightlife Guide describes The Living Room:
A “fun, cozy place” that looks like a cross between a “coffeehouse” and “your parents’ den from the ’70s”, this Lower East Side music venue mainly showcases “up-and-coming acoustic acts”; since it’s “all about the music and nothing else”, you can expect a “fantastic” sound system and little attitude.
We'll be at The Living Room on May 26th for three fantastic sets of music. Here is the line-up. All three are all great. Be sure to check out Misty Boyce in particular.

The Village Voice: "Canadian transplant and former jam band muse Serena Jean Southam is a mighty fine country-rockin' gal. Southam doesn't waste time brawling under the roots tent about labels; the singer-songwriter's too busy vying for the crown of supreme artist on the come up... She and her cracking band will entice you to honky-tonk. This is the genuine hotness—with boots!"

Boyce began her career as the keyboardist for The Naked Brothers Band, appearing with them on "The View" and the "Today Show", and has also accompanied Tim Williams on tour and at performances at SXSW and Sundance Film Festival.
After studying jazz piano at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, Boyce moved to New York to pursue her own sound, where she met Patrick Ermlich and Eshy Gazit at Modern Vintage Recordings. With influences ranging from Tori Amos to Radiohead to Miles Davis, Boyce writes all of her own music. She explains, "I think there is something otherworldly about writing. A line or a melody will come out and later I'll read it or hear it and think 'this is healing me and I wrote it.'"
Similarly, it is this connection that drives Boyce's live performances, whether solo or with her band, which includes drummer Nir Z (John Mayer, Chris Cornell), guitarist Thad Debrock (Ari Hest, Jonas Brothers) and bassist/MD Eshy Gazit (The Roots, Lisa Loeb) and occasionally a string quartet. The Daily Iowan asserts that "her voice drips soulfully against the piano as she croons lyrics of heartbreak and toil," and the Las Cruces Sun-News says Boyce is "at once poignant and playful...combining provocative, often clever, lyrics with her soulful vocals and vibrant piano playing."

Chris Cubeta and The Liars Club is a brash, Americana rock band from Brooklyn led by compelling and charismatic frontman Chris Cubeta. Cubeta is a relentless songwriter whose lyrics combine nuance-soaked imagery with incisive observations. The band’s sound is equally eclectic, combining the wispy, sensitivity of the singer/songwriter with the unbridled thrill of rock and roll. Fresh off their first-ever residency at The Living Room as well as a packed Saturday night summer gig at Mercury Lounge and their upcoming gig at the nationally-renowned Bowery Ballroom on November 21, The Liars Club is ready to take off.
The Liars Club’s live show is bolstered by a high-octane band – Jeff Berner on guitars, Marc Capaldo on drums and John Passineau on bass. Each brings his own flair to a show that is a dynamic blend of passionate, guitar-infused energy and down-home, rootsy melancholy. Cubeta presides over every gig with the subtle and sure hand of a seasoned performer, deftly alternating between wowing the crowd with his guitar and telling the silhouetted stories of the unsung.
