SPEAKERS & TALKS
-------------
Catherine Holloway
CPython: from code to execution
Get a whirlwind tour of the cpython 3.9 interpreter source code as we follow some python code from the familiar human-readable syntax to the interpreter's evaluation of the resulting bytecode. This talk assumes that you haven't taken a Principles of Programming Languages or Computer Architecture class and will introduce concepts such as parsers, abstract syntax trees, and stack arithmetic.
Catherine Holloway is an SRE at Bloomberg with a passion for python and learning new things.
Joe Eddy
Demystifying Gradient Boosting
In recent years, the gradient boosting algorithm has become increasingly popular as a predictive modeling tool in industry applications with tabular data. While at first glance this algorithm’s expressivity and flexibility may make understanding it seem like a daunting task, its driving logic as an iterative mistake-correction process is quite intuitive. This talk aims to provide a gentle introduction to gradient boosting, making it conceptually and mathematically accessible to those with a working knowledge of regression and decision trees. The talk will also briefly touch on a simple Python implementation in order to make the algorithm even more concrete.
Joe Eddy is a Senior Data Scientist at Metis, where he is an instructor for their three-month intensive training program.
