NYC Rollerbladers

This is a recurring Thursday Night Skate from Weehawken, NJ to Liberty State Park. Intermediate level. Meet at Son Cubano Restaurant at 6pm.

NYC Rollerbladers held our first event on Oct. 1, 2023 at Randall's Island. Those in attendance were Matt, Trudi, Phylicia, Gilbert, Daniela, Bimbola, Jyllian, Kim, Nayarett, and Carlos. Our group now has over 1000 members on Meetup and over 600 on Whatsapp. This event will mark our two year anniversary.

Meet on Randall's Island at bus stop "Main Roadway/Icahn Stadium."

How to get there: Take the 6 train to 125th St stop. Walk to M35 bus stop at Lexington Avenue and 125th St. (right by the subway). Take M35 bus to "Main Roadway/Icahn Stadium" stop (5 stops).

Note: This is a beginner event but not an absolute beginner event. You should at least be able to stand on skates, move from one place to another, and brake (not T-stop necessarily, but at least plow stop). We will go slow and help at steeper inclines/in general.

We will do two to three loops around the bottom half of the island (see map below). One loop is 2.2 miles. We will also skate from the meeting point to the loop entrance (0.3 miles). Total skate mileage is about 5.

Update - Some houses have started putting up their big Halloween displays, so will be combining the Porchfest skate with a Pre-Halloween house skate.

Will spend the first hour or so skating around town to the houses with live music. Then once the sun goes down, we can detour to see the Halloween displays that are up (so bring lights!)
After that, Porchfest wraps with what’s essentially a block party at a final porch starting at 8pm, so if anyone is still down to hang we could hit the store and wrap the evening there.

Come for a skate through Rutherford NJ during Porchfest. Meetup at the Rutherford Train Station (Address 8 Park Ave, Rutherford NJ).
Lots of smooth roads and fun downhill runs (naturally there will be uphills too). Intermediate skate, can accommodate pace and distance to the groups preference (~10 miles). All wheels welcome! Live location will be shared in the WhatsApp group.
PorchFest is a full day of free live music, with 35 bands performing on 11 porches across town.

If commuting from NYC, the 190 bus from port authority will drop you directly at the meet up location. They run every 20 minutes.
The train is also an option, easiest connection is through Secaucus junction.
If you have a car, free street parking is available along Park Ave and Erie Ave.
