City Island and Orchard Beach - WSS#8

Saturday July 25 (rain date Sunday July 26)
We will head up to City Island via Randall’s Island to the Pelham Parkway area in the Bronx. We will stop briefly at Botanical Market to pick up additional skaters (but no mini keg this time). Cesar will lead us to City Island where we will stop for 1 hour (around Noon) for some food at Johnny’s Reef (2 City Island Ave). After the break, we will skate to Orchard Beach for a quick stop. We will then head back to the Allerton area. We will continue back via Mosholu Parkway and the Grand Concourse. We will finish either by Yankee Stadium, Macomb’s Dam Bridge and Convent Avenue or, the easier way, via 138, Madison Bridge and 5th Avenue. We will finish at TNS Start, hopefully at around 4 PM.
Lunch is CASH ONLY and deli stops might be limited. Bring cash and water!!
FULL Skate – 36 miles
Meet at 9:15 AM Leave at 9:30 AM
59th St and 5th Ave (TNS Start) by the statue
SHORTER Skate – 25 miles
Meet at 11:00 AM Leave at 11:15 AM (or as soon as we get there)
Botanical Market – 2220 Boston Road, Bronx
Wait at the outdoor area with benches on the side of the store.
Take the #2 Train to Pelham Parkway stop by Pelham Parkway and White Plains Rd
Three segments
- 11 miles – TNS in Manhattan to Botanical Market in Pelham Parkway
- 14 miles – Botanical Market to City Island, Orchard Beach and back to Allerton (near Bronx River Parkway)
- 11 miles – Allerton back to TNS in Manhattan
TOTAL 36 miles
