Avalanche Mountain is one of the other 54 high peaks. 3800' 8 miles round trip
NOT FOR BEGINNERS!!!!!
This is a bushwhack with no trails, so if you don't mind getting poked in the eye or have your skin ripped off all over your body then this is the hike for you! You must be in good physical condition! This will not be an easy hike.
We'll start at South Meadows (if the road has been opened), follow the trail to Marcy Dam and from there head to Kagel Lean-To which brings us to the start of our bushwhack. About a mile away from the summit. About an hour of bushwhacking just to reach the summit. We'll follow the Wright Brook keeping it on our right! Right for Wright...or Wright for Right! In any case, it is might for might. We'll be pushing and charging our way through the pines! Wright Brook is located in Caribou Pass so not only will we be bushwhacking, but visiting a lesser used area of the adk. We're estimating a 7 hour trip, but could be longer!
John and I have been going over the plans and have been coordinating compass bearings, but if anyone else would like to get in on the compass readings please don't hesitate.
Towards the summit, it is reported to be very thick in growth (trees) and along the way we will encounter cliffs/ledges, but it's also reported the ledges offer some great views of the surrounding peaks. We'll be able to see Colden's scars! Kind of like being on Pyramid looking at Gothics. Only experienced hikers allowed this time!

The bump in front of Colden is Avalanche Mountain.
