Company: PlaceIQ
Position: Senior Software Engineer, Analytics
Contact: Joseph Ranzenbach,

PlaceIQ is a rapidly growing, venture funded “Big Data” business with a tremendous opportunity to become the market leader in the exploding location intelligence marketplace. Starting with an extensive library of unstructured/unrelated geospatial, temporal and social data, PlaceIQ transforms information into time and location context. Revolutionary techniques in data mining and machine learning at scale are being developed on a daily basis to uncover the reality of the world like no other company can.

Having already assembled an exceptionally skilled, diverse and passionate team of developers and data scientists, we are looking for world-class engineers that can (or are willing to learn how to…) do it all. From web front ends to regression models/classification algorithms, complex data visualizations to geospatial clustering, a full stack enterprise targeting platform to big data analytics, PlaceIQ software engineers live for huge challenges and know how to deliver in a fast paced, agile environment. Our unique culture breeds excellence and embraces creativity as we look to innovate and drive our business forward. If you have a passion for imagining and building technology solutions that will make an immediate impact in an untapped space, we want to talk to you!

The Role:
At its core, the PlaceIQ value proposition centers around the ability to effectively collect, classify, analyze and distribute key insights to a number of disparate markets from massive amounts of base data. The challenge of sifting through the noise and finding the most integral signals requires both highly performant, scalable architectures and the latest data mining and machine learning techniques.

We are looking for a mid to senior level Software Engineer to drive our analytics platform to the next level. The role will be responsible for owning both the infrastructural aspects of the PlaceIQ scientific platform as well as serving as the bridge between the Engineering and Data Science teams as we build a battery of best of breed algorithms to extract the most ingenious product insights. Our engineers are self-starters, to say the least, and are expected to be able to take product ownership from Day 1. You will with a number of functional teams to quickly turn ideas into prototypes and then full-scale, production quality systems. In the end, to be successful in this role, sheer determination and a passion to solve complex problems on a daily basis are an absolute must.

The ideal candidate will bring the perfect balance of software development experience, a wide breadth of knowledge in modern data storage and analytics frameworks at “big data scale” and a true passion for life at a fast paced startup.

Minimum Requirements:

• Solid foundation in computer science fundamentals from data structures and algorithms to high-level design patterns

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Python scientific platform (Numpy/Scipy/Matplotlib), R, MATLAB or other 3rd party mathematical/statistical analysis packages
• Exposure and working knowledge of geospatial products and platforms (ArcGIS, ESRI Location Analytics, Google/OSM APIs, etc.)
• Industry or research background in design and implementation of machine learning algorithms/data mining techniques
• This position is located in New York, NY. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.
