Free Outrigger Canoe Paddling at Hudson River Park's Pier 66

Details

Experience a free introduction to outrigger paddling at Hudson River Park’s Pier 66. This year 2021, New York Outrigger, a 100% volunteer-run organization, will be hosting free Novice Sessions for the public every Saturday and Sunday from 12noon-1pm June 5 to September 5. This free activity is appropriate for age 14 and up and is available on a first-come first-served basis.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE I COME?

Guest Waiver:

COVID-19 Consent Form:

*Please note: All participants, including public visitors and member-volunteers are required to wear a mask/face covering for the duration of the event, including in the boathouse, on the dock, and in the canoe. Please review guidelines below.

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?
The novice session will involve a 20 minute land training introduction on the dock to familiarize you with the technique, commands and safety protocol of the canoe. This is then followed by a 20 minute session on the water. PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME by 12noon to participate in land training before you are able to paddle on the water. We recommend viewing this safety video prior to arriving: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApYFF1ZcP7Q

WHAT DO I WEAR? WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING? WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?
We paddle rain or shine except when there is lightning. Remember to wear sunscreen and to bring a bottle of water in the canoe to stay hydrated. You are free to wear whatever you want provided you do not mind the possibility of it getting wet. You may want to consider bringing something dry you can change into afterwards. Assume anything you bring in the canoe will get soaked and/or lost.

DOES NYO ACCEPT DONATIONS?
NYO is a non-profit 501c3 educational organization and 100% run by volunteers. Any cash or check donations – while not required - would be greatly appreciated and go towards funding our efforts to continue providing New Yorkers with the experience of outrigger paddling in New York City. Donations can be given your land training instructor. You can also donate here: https://newyorkoutrigger.ecwid.com/General-Donation-p140302392
