Quantified Self is back in New York.
It's been a while. Our last Show&Tell was in March 2017. Almost ten years. It's time to bring the community back together.
We're doing a special evening of self-tracking Show&Tell talks, tool demos, and the launch of Gary Wolf's new book, The Quantified Self: Learning to Observe (Workman, on sale Oct 6). Come reconnect with old friends, meet new people, see what our community is building, and hear what everyone's been tracking.
When: Tuesday, October 13, 6:30–8:30 PM
Where: Civic Hall, 124 E 14th St, New York, NY 10003 (Union Square)
Tickets (on Luma): $15 per person, or $48 including a copy of the book.
Space is limited to 60, and spots fill up fast, so please register on Luma as soon as you can.
6:30–7:00 pm · Social gathering & demos
We'll start with drinks, demos, and time to reconnect. If you're building something useful for self-trackers, you're welcome to demo at a table before and after the program. Interested in demoing? Apply here.
7:00–8:15 pm · Welcome, the QS book, and Show&Tell talks
A quick welcome, a few words from Dr. Jay Varma on Civic Health, and from Gary Wolf on the new book and where the movement goes from here. Then our main event: a few Show&Tell talks from people running their own self-tracking experiments. Each talk runs about 10–15 minutes.
8:15–8:30 pm · Social & demos
Talk to the speakers, ask people what they're tracking, and hang out.
How a Show&Tell works
"What did you do? How did you do it? What did you learn?"
These 3 questions are the format for our QS Show&Tell talks. A talk is a first-person account of a self-tracking project: someone tracked something about themselves — sleep, mood, diet, symptoms, focus, anything — and shows what happened. These are not product pitches or research presentations. How you did it usually teaches the room more than what you found out, and it's often what leads to new questions and ideas. Unfinished projects and unclear results are welcome. Questions from the room follow each talk.
