Yorkville, Carl Schurz Park, East River Esplanade

Let's explore the picturesque and historic area of Yorkville in the Upper East Side
We'll meet at the entrance to Carl Schurz Park at 88th Street and East End Avenue which will lead us past the mayor's house, Gracie Mansion. We'll walk around this beautiful park and go on to the East River Esplanade from which we'll see some interesting sights, including the Hells Gate Bridge, a steel bridge which served as the inspiration for the Sydney Harbor Bridge in Australia. We'll get off the Esplanade at 79th Street and walk some of the local streets. At 77th Street near York Avenue is the Cherokee Apartments Building which is a Landmark Building in the Beaux Arts style. Walking on to 86th Street and 2nd Avenue, we'll pass the Heidelberg Restaurant, one of the oldest German restaurants in the US, as well as several other shops and restaurants, both old and newer.
