September Meetup: Large Datasets with WEKA + Big Data Use Cases & Industry Trend

Details

It’s time to get the September Big Data meetup into the calendar!

Join us on September 2nd to hear from two Big Data experts, Mark Hall and Zachary Zeus. They are both travelling to Auckland, so it will be a good opportunity to meet them while they are in town.

Mark is going to explain how to handle Large Datasets with WEKA. He will cover strategies for dealing with large datasets using the WEKA toolset, with a particular emphasis on processing in Hadoop using the new distributed WEKA package.

Zach will analyse Big Data use cases and industry trends. This session will cover real world stories of big data in the market today, with a particular emphasis on how big data fits into the overall "data fabric" that organisations have. He will also look at how big data fits in with all the other data stores in the organisation.

Mark Hall: Senior Data Mining Consultant / Engineer Pentaho

Mark Hall is one of the original core developers of the Weka data mining software and is responsible for leading Pentaho's data mining solutions. He has 15 years’ experience as an academic researcher in computer science and has published extensively in machine learning and data mining conferences and journals. Prior to joining Pentaho, Mark held teaching and postdoctoral fellowship positions at the University of Waikato in New Zealand.

Zachary Zeus:

Zachary has 15 years of experience delivering consulting, process design and business intelligence projects to small and large organisations. His experience has been primarily in the financial services industry, but has also spanned the hospitality, media and manufacturing sectors.

In identifying the key to success on these many varied projects he has focused on deploying information to people at times and in ways that make decision making simple, straightforward and intuitive. This has been through analysis of reporting processes, delivering board level scorecards, providing decision point analyses and integrating business intelligence software into business processes.

It will be a casual session, with plenty of opportunity for Q&A, and catching up with others over some fresh Sushi and a couple of cold drinks.

Date/Time: 2nd of September 2014. Arrival from 5pm. Start time 5:30pm.

Location: GridAKL, 132 Halsey St, at the corner of Madden St
