The long white computing cloud (In-person attendance)

1 Cloud and Proud - Digital Sovereignty in Aotearoa
Cloud, not-cloud, geopolitics, hegemony, survival, sovereignty, Māori data sovereignty, climate action, colonialism, decolonisation, developer agency, and the future.
Doug Dixon is CEO of Catalyst Cloud, Aotearoa New Zealand's cloud provider. He started his career in the dotcom boom of the early 2000s in London, where he was a software engineer (mainly using Python!) and architect in a series of e-commerce companies. In New Zealand he shifted into the telco industry with Run The Red and Kordia, then the finance industry with ANZ. Doug’s vision is for Aotearoa New Zealand to be a global digital leader, with sovereign cloud infrastructure providing the foundations for growth, security and prosperity.
FYI as you will recall from our usual admin-slides: our web-conferencing takes-place over BBB (Big Blue Button) using an instance kindly hosted by the NZOSS (Open Source Society), and the computing infrastructure for all this is sponsored by Catalyst Cloud!
2 Python in the cloud
How to get-started with Catalyst Cloud, using their OpenStack to host a Python-based system. We'll go through the admin-stuff, and then actually build a toy-application as a live-demo
(what could possibly go wrong!?)
NB This will be a hybrid event (enabling both in-person and virtual attendees). If you wish to attend virtually, please stop reading and go to https://www.meetup.com/nzpug-auckland/events/njdjssyfcfbtb/ for details.
