THIS MEETING HAS BEEN POSTPONED - WITH APOLOGIES.

Meeting to form a Learning Django Co-op

Are you interested in learning Django?

Would like to improve your Django knowledge and skills?

Have you been picking-up Django piecemeal, and need to consolidate and clarify?

Do you know some Django and would like to acquire mentoring and coaching skills?

NB This is not a regular PUG-meeting. It is for you to be able to discuss learning Django, and deciding how a Co-op group might work.

What is Django?

Django is one of Python's larger and more capable web frameworks (but wait - there's more).

Co-op Group

We will gather to learn together, to improve as individuals, and to meet regularly for collaboration and encouragement.

Learning

To learn about, and how to drive Django, each will enroll in a training-course (or book) of some description (your choice). Study will take place in one's own time, and self-paced (so this is not a 'study group' then!). Distance-learning courses are notorious for their drop-out rates - because it is not easy working on your own!

Meetings

Will adopt a café style - informal, conversations, all about co-operation, build relationships, and in a fashion which the group decides for itself. Co-op meetings will be opportunities to reflect on progress, and encourage each other by discussing problems and successes. (Schedule to be decided)

Mix of formal curriculum and Challenge-based learning

The more formal learning opportunity should ensure a knowledge-foundation. To prove new knowledge each could create a project ('scratching an itch' basis) and/or the group could collaborate on a larger and more ambitious target.

Project

If the group chooses, a real-world Co-op project will be designed.. All will contribute and thereby exercise the skills necessary to work successfully as a team, yielding a sense of accomplishment.

Not a beginner?

We would welcome some Django experienced folk, even if not 'full-time'. This will be an opportunity to share knowledge (testing yourself!). It will also help to have some wisdom in defining suitable project(s)! Perhaps you've been using various Django-facilities but have ended-up with 'islands' of knowledge, because all will be at different stages of progress, this is an opportunity to close those gaps!

Call to action

Interested? (perhaps only wanting to find-out more) Please join this meeting on Wednesday-evening. More explanations. Opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions. Organising things to suit you! If unable, please contact me directly.

All welcome!

Regards =dn
