DAY OF GAMES - VFW Burgers and Board Games!

OCG’s regular monthly gaming event takes place every 2nd Saturday of the month, noon – 10pm. We are a novice friendly group that supports teaching games and encouraging interaction with fellow gamers. Our hope is to build an awareness of the hobby and a friendly community of people that love to play board games.

3 months ago OCG hosted our Day of Games at the VFW Wixom and we have gotten resoundingly positive feedback and an enormous number of requests to occasionally revisit this location. There is a bar on site and food will be available throughout the day. There is also a larger park area behind the VFW for various summer activities if anyone wants to take a break from gaming to enjoy the sun. Please join us July 9th from Noon-Midnight for Burgers and Board Games!

Families - We have also gotten a great number of requests from parents desiring to bring their children to Day of Games. OCG always welcomes kids ages 8+ to play games with us, parental supervision required. The vast majority of games are kid safe and friendly; however, OCG does not monitor game content or language, so parents are simply asked to use their discretion while attending.

ALTERNATE VENUE

The VFW a couple miles north of Flat Land Games further up Wixom road.

According to Google Maps the VFW is exactly 9 minutes north of Flat Land Games. It is a simple drive north on Wixom Road to Loon Lake Road, then about 1/3 mile down on the north side - it is impossible to miss as it is a large white building that sits atop a very high hill. The parking lot is directly behind the building. Please enter via the Bar/Cantina entrance in back.

Yes, you heard it! An added bonus of this venue is the availability of adult beverages if desired. (ID IS REQUIRED - 21 AND OVER) There is a bar on location stocked with beverages and snacks. Burgers will be available for lunch and dinner and pizza will be ordered mid-afternoon as usual.

SIGN IN

When you arrive, be sure to sign in at the entry table, retrieve your name tag, and log your attendance. There will never be a cover charge or dues assigned for this community. So when you come to our events, we ask anyone who is able for a voluntary donation to help with expenses like monthly site cost, stationary, and building a community game library. This is discretionary.

FOR THOSE NEW TO OCG - If you haven’t played board games in a while, there are so many new options available. OCG has designated Game Coordinators on hand to teach games for the first half of our Meetup starting at noon. Each Game Coordinator will assess the knowledge of their group and decide on a game that would be appropriate.

As a group, OCG has also selected 5 core learning games that provide a good basis of game mechanics you will find in most other games that we play: Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Splendor, Machi Koro, and 7 Wonders. These are all great games to start on if you haven’t heard of them yet. Ask your Game Coordinator about them when you arrive.
