Elephant on the Side

Details
Come join us for a casual introduction to the Natural History of Ano Nuevo State Reserve featuring the amazing Northern Elephant Seal (Mirounga angustirostris). Come learn about the incredible biology of a living, breathing deep-sea submersible. Ano Nuevo is located on Route 1 with some of the wildest Ocean beaches in central California. We'll meet at the Ano Nuevo Vistor Center which is inside the Reserve. There is a $10.00 parking fee if you want to park inside the reserve; or for free, you can park just south and outside the reserve, on Route 1, and walk in 1/4 mi to the Center.
We will hike 1/2 mile out to Cove beach along the bluff on Ano Nuevo trail, Then we drop down a fairly steep path to Cove beach for our return back to the Visitor Center, totaling a little over 1 mile (2 Km). This is moderate hiking. As part of our hike will be along the beach, tide and occurrence of wildlife may alter our course. If our group, as a whole, is ambitious enough, we can hike all the way to the staging area.
What to bring:
Good hiking boots: Part of our hike involves rocks, water and sand.
Day Pack
Water: You can only fill up on water near the visitor center.
Extra slicker w/hood: Ocean weather can change quickly and unattached hats can go flying.
Lunch if you like
Positive Attitude and healthy curiosity.
COVID-19 safety measures
