A Special Invitation to an Objectivist Gathering

Details

A special meeting for Ayn Rand fans will be hosted by Michael and April Goode on Saturday, May 25th, at 11 a.m. Michael has been a life-long Rand fan since reading The Fountainhead, his favorite book, in college. The couple will offer a tour of their Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home on the Tennessee River. The four-story asymmetric flat-roof styrofoam-wall home was designed by Michael using new building methods and employing many themes developed by Wright and is on the highest ridge between Memphis and Nashville.
The couple met at an online dating site after April wrote that she had always admired Dagny Taggart. Since marriage two decades ago, the couple has visited most of Wright’s famous homes and buildings.
April is a retired attorney whose resume includes lobbying Congress for an investigation into the Kennedy assassination. She also worked in Los Angeles on a newspaper owned by publisher Larry Flynt while pitching a script for a movie in Hollywood and has lived in Detroit, Venice Beach, Washington D.C. and Memphis, where she settled to investigate the MLK, Jr. assassination before becoming an assistant Federal Public Defender.
Michael is also a retired attorney who was the founder and publisher of Memphis Health & Fitness Magazine which continues distribution after over 20 years. Michael met Rand twice at autograph sessions following her annual speeches at the Ford Hall Forum in Boston in the 70s. Michael also has met Barbara Branden and Roy Childs, an early editor of Barbara’s Rand biography, and attended lectures by libertarians Nobel-laureate Milton Friedman, philosopher George Smith, and psychiatrist Thomas Szasz. Michael’s favorite Rand connection is playing the romantic lead in Ayn Rand’s play, Night of January 16th, in a Germantown, TN theater production.
Following the 11 a.m. tour of their home, the group is invited to a buffet luncheon at a nearby floating marina restaurant that the Goodes own on the Tennessee River. Cherokee Marina has a facebook page and is located at 1748 Cherokee Heights, Sugar Tree, TN.
Michael and April live at 2064 Ridgeway Drive, Sugar Tree, TN, about 1.5 hours west of Nashville, about 8 miles off exit 126, on I-40, west of Nashville. For complete directions, email michael_goode@me.com, or call 901-378-2499. Please RSVP so we’ll know how much food to prepare. If you are unable to attend on this date, the Goodes are always pleased to meet Rand fans and invite you to save their contact information for a later visit or correspondence.
