Summer Solstice Hike - Marlborough To Avebury Stone Circle
Details
Let’s celebrate the longest day of the year (or at least the nearest Saturday to it) with a trip to some iconic monuments created by the sun worshiping ancient British. We’re going to follow a 9 mile route from the historic market town of Marlborough, passing along the final 2 miles of the 5000 year old Ridgeway footpath to the UNESCO world heritage sites of Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow & Avebury stone circle.

I’m hiring a coach & driver which will take us from Acton Town tube station to Marlborough in Wiltshire where we’ll start our hike. We’ll stop for a picnic lunch about a third of the way through the hike. After lunch we’ll head along the Ridgeway to its end point where we're likely to see lots of hippies camped out waiting for sunrise on the longest day. From there we’ll walk past West Kennet Longbarrow (a 5500 year old Neolithic tomb). Shortly after this we’ll pass by Silbury Hill, the largest man made hill in Europe constructed 4500 years ago. Finally we’ll finish the hike at the village of Avebury, home of Europe’s largest ancient stone circle.

Once we’ve had a look around the stone circle our bus we'll go to the Red Lion pub in Avebury where we’ll spend an hour or two having some well earned food and drink. The bus will then drive us back to Acton Town where we’ll arrive around 9pm.
The price of the hike is £20 which covers coach travel between London & Avebury, Paypal fees & organiser's expenses. To confirm your place you'll need to pay this by Paypal. If you don't have Paypal, please contact me and we can arrange another way for you to pay.
