Hey everyone!
We're back with our first event of 2025! 🎉 On Thursday, February 27th, we’ll be joined by two fantastic speakers who are tackling observability at scale.
First up, we have Timothy Mahoney, Senior Systems Engineer in the Observability Enablement team at Ingka Group Digital (IKEA). Timothy is passionate about making complex systems observable and has been working with OpenTelemetry to help IKEA solve large-scale observability challenges. He co-developed a composable Splunk environment in Google Cloud used across IKEA and will be sharing insights from IKEA’s Observability Journey, giving us a look at how one of the world’s largest retailers approaches observability across its global infrastructure.
Next, we’ll hear from Jean Burellier, Principal Software Engineer at Sanofi, who will explore Reusable Observability with Terraform. Observability and monitoring are critical for system awareness. Yet, they are not part of the standard set of features expected in a deployment pipeline. With the rise of infrastructure as code, engineers can operate their code and cloud resources in the same place. The same should be true for monitoring. Let's see how we can build an Observability as Code mindset.
See you there! 🚀

A Bit About Timothy Mahoney
Timothy is a senior systems engineer in the Observability Enablement team at Ingka Group Digital (IKEA). He is passionate about making complex systems observable and sharing knowledge. Currently, he is working with OpenTelemetry and helping IKEA solve observability challenges. He co-developed a large-scale, composable Splunk environment in Google Cloud used at IKEA. Timothy volunteers as an arbiter for the RIPE NCC. Originally from Michigan, he lives in southern Sweden with his wife Linda, son Charlie and dog Piggy Pop.
Talk | IKEA’s Observability Journey
Observability is a journey, not a destination. In this talk, I’ll share how Ingka has evolved its observability practices, the pivotal role OpenTelemetry has played in that transformation, and where I see us heading next. Expect insights, challenges, and lessons learned along the way.

A Bit About Jean Burellier
With a passion for reshaping processes and being able to produce more by doing less, Jean works mainly as a domain-specific reference on the JavaScript/Node.js ecosystem, leading platform and transversal teams.
When he is not directly building features for the business, Jean finds solutions to improve the global developer experience by enhancing the collaboration between teams, bringing suggestions on how to succeed together, bringing more efficiency to all teams, and focusing on the technical stack. Outside of company work, Jean spends a good amount of time teaching Computer Science students, presenting to both in-company guilds and meetups, and being involved in Open-Source projects.
