Gallery Tour with Photographer Martha Strawn

We'll get to take a tour of the exhibition with artist Martha Strawn, learn more about the work directly from the photographer, and have an opportunity to ask questions. “Across the Threshold of India” portrays one of India’s and the world’s longest and unique religious practices — the art of sanctifying space through the creation of threshold diagrams. The threshold is a profoundly important concept that represents a passage between one space and another, creating a visual bridge between the secular and the sacred. On view in the second-floor contemporary spaces will be 44 photographs by the Florida-based artist.
• Martha Strawn graduated from Florida State University and later attended Brooks Institute of Photography in California, where she worked with the ceramicist Beatrice Wood who had been a cultural ambassador to Japan. Clarence White Jr. and Arnold Gassan were her principal mentors at Ohio University where she received her Master of Fine Arts.
