Ian has been committed to the study of science, human nature, and philosophy for the past 35 years. In the early 1990's, as a business leader and parent of three young children, he became fascinated with human motivation and how the integrity of our belief system shapes the quality of our life experience. Ian continues to develop and test original hypotheses and to create cognitive models that synthesize philosophical ideas with theories founded in evolutionary psychology and cognitive science.
Ian is most enthusiastic about helping others to challenge their way of thinking, to become more aware and self-empowered, and to realize their highest aspirations. While Ian prefers to be an advocate for science and the study of human nature as the road to deeper understanding, he holds a particular admiration for the works of philosophers Bertrand Russell, Immanuel Kant, and Karl Popper. His credits include having led a philosophy discussion group for ten years, that began in a local library in the Detroit Michigan area in 2014, and expanded to over 1500 local and online members during the Covid years. The dynamic conversations and ideas shared in this group, led many of its members to encourage Ian to write The Rational Way, where he frequently credits the many who contributed and collaborated on the book’s development.
Ian holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Michigan, and resides with his wife, Sue, of 42 years, in Commerce Township, Michigan. He enjoyed a twenty-year career in the telecommunications industry where he directed organizations in product development, engineering, operating, marketing, and sales support before becoming President of a small tech company. Now in retirement, when he is not writing, he serves as President of a large condominium association.
After leaving his corporate career, Ian designed and built several custom homes in the Detroit suburbs. He also created the successfully syndicated word puzzle and mobile device app, Unolingo (R), widely available online, and offered for download on all Apple and Android devices. His Unolingo ® puzzle books are available for purchase on Amazon.com.
For more information about Ian's book and how to order it can be found at therationalway.com. Ian also hosts a site called createaphilosophy.com that offers inspiration to those who wish to create their own philosophy from scratch.
