“BACK FROM THE DEAD”- OLD MOVIE RESTORATION

Online event

DV / After Effects Abuser Group - "Pushing Pixels Beyond . . ." Using techniques from Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere, our Group Manager, Terry Syndergaard, will be diving into the restoration of the damaged, nearly unwatchable, 1903 film “Alice In Wonderland” and transforming it to… Amazing! This demo will be of interest to those of us inspired by the film and video industry, or who just plain love old movies. Many of the techniques you may be familiar with like Photoshop layers & masking, and mask tracking in Premiere and After Effects will be shown. Possibly more entertaining than daunting, and it just might pay off. Most films from the early days had been stored improperly. A great number have been lost due to their nitrate base being extremely flammable (burns violently even under water.) Many were just dumped into the ocean, thought to be of no further value – who would ever want to watch that old stuff again? Improper, careless storage allowed many more to crumble to dust. Still, this sad fate does open an opportunity… the possibility of working from your home studio during this “Shelter In Place” CoVid-19 Pandemic, restoring old footage for museums, private parties, or historical reference. We think it’s a possibility worth exploring— how about you? (Zoom meeting link to be announced.)----------------------------------------------------------------- Pros who want to expand and exchange ideas and newbies who want to add production value to their videos will find a gathering of people who love visual effects - pushing pixels to go beyond - a club for adventurous explorers — kinda like a treehouse, but with computers. The Digital Video / After Effects Abuser Group has presentations on video editing and special effects software, including, but not limited to, Adobe After Effects, Premiere, & Final Cut Pro. Terry Syndergaard is the Manager, Bonnie Erdrich, co-manager. Meeting on the 4th Wednesday of every month. Visit www.ocmma.org (http://www.tinyurl.com/dv-meetings/) for more information.
