Details
An elderly British aristocrat asks his nephew, a young American man, to embark on a mission started five centuries ago by their ancestor. Evidence suggests that the long-ago explorer found an unknown element that was the key to immortality, an element contained in what is called the flame of life, but he never returned from the expedition with the secret. The nephew agrees, and as he travels to mysterious regions he meets a man who’ll provide guidance on the condition that he gets a cut of whatever treasure they find. His daughter joins the group and proves to be a major distraction.
The story is by H. Rider Haggard, a popular writer of adventure fiction whose works include King Solomon’s Mines and a series of books featuring audacious explorer Alan Quartermain. His novel She has been filmed several times; this is the first, and it features remarkable special effects for a movie from the 1930s. Although it was filmed in black-and-white, all online recordings of this film are colorized.
