Qohen Leth (Christoph Waltz) is a programmer assigned to “crunch entities” for the Mancom corporation. He suffers from persistent existential angst, wondering if there’s any meaning in life and the universe, and he’s convinced that a phone call will come to provide the answer. He requests permission to work from home so that he will have fewer distractions and won’t miss the impending phone call. His request is approved, but his new assignment is to solve the Zero Theorem, a cryptic mathematical formula that will prove that there’s no meaning to anything. This task and encounters with psychiatrist Dr. Shrink-Rom (Tilda Swinton) and Management (Matt Damon) only increase his angst.
