The movie Zulu (1964) is widely acclaimed as a true tale of heroism by British soldiers in the face of impossible odds, but this prequel gives audiences a glimpse of how they found themselves in such a predicament. In 1879 South Africa, the administrators of the British Cape Colony want to eliminate the Zulus to further their colonial ambitions. They present the Zulu king with preposterous demands with the intention of provoking a war. With superior firepower, the British are confident they will win such a conflict quickly. Underestimating the tactical skill and might of the Zulu nation leads to disaster.
