This is our annual opportunity to visit "Mt. Tenran & Mt.Tonosu & Azuma Gorge for Hiking/Picnic with Metsä Village & Lake Miyazawako , Okumusashi Nature Park, Saitama prefecture. We will enjoy Mt. Tenran & Mt.Tonosu & Azuma Gorge scenic nature hiking with picnic lunch, local culture visit, and Seasonal green colors Lake Miyazawako, Metsä Village & Moomin Theme Park area, tasty local cuisine, and (OP) nice hot spring facility. ★Total walking volume will be almost 2 ~ 2.5 hours.(Beginners level, Except rest, lunch time, etc)

★This event will be finished around 19:30 at Hanno station.

[About Mt.Tenran & Mt. Tounosu- A Great Spot to Enjoy Natural Surroundings in Saitama]

Located at what might be considered the commutable edge of Tokyo, Hanno City in Saitama Prefecture is a great spot to enjoy local natural surroundings. During the summer months the Iruma River which runs through the city is a drawcard for swimming and BBQs and in the autumn the changing Fall colors draw sightseers to a nature reserve north of river.

The path up to the top is a twisty sort, with well-maintained trails snaking around in various directions. The nature is truly beautiful - quiet forests, peaceful trees. A visit in summer, as the deep green colors are serene. One path leads past a rocky wall filled with 16 stone rakan statues. Rakan are usually miniature stone statues carved in the likeness of the disciples of Buddha. These particular rakan were said to have been donated by the mother of the shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, a major political and military leader from the late 1600's. According to legend, the shogun was seriously ill, and his mother asked temple priests to pray for his health and long life. When the shogun recovered, his mother donated these statues in appreciation. That event caused the mountain to be renamed Mt. Rakan, changed from its original name of Mt. Atago (which had been named for the Atago Shrine, which used to be at the mountain's summit).

[About Lake Miayazawako, Metsä Village,]

Located in the west of Saitama, this serene onsen is easily accessible from central Tokyo. Metsä (Forest in Finnish), the first Moomin theme park outside Finland, opened at Lake Miyazawa on March 16, 2019. The surroundings of the lake remind a lot of Finland where Tove Jansson lived and created the Moomins.
